ah god fuck of course GitHub Gists don’t have their attribution updated if you change names or usernames because they’re fucking git repos underneath
git is a nightmarish blob of identity tightly coupled to activity and I really wish it weren’t irreversibly stuck this way
we will never fix this aspect of git and it sucks because it’s “good enough” for enough people that we’ll probably take a good while to replace it and the tool that does replace it will probably make similar mistakes but be better in some other academic way
@katelyn look I kind of just want authorship to be a GPG style key ID and then you look it up in a database the repo has which is mutable separately
