today I get to mash the big blue “Upgrade” button on behalf of my PlayStation®2 and replace its generic eBay YPbPr cable (which was probably slowly wearing out the A/V Out port) with a genuine Sony D-Terminal cable from the PS3 era!
I’m basically considering this an investment in the longevity of my PS2, given originals are becoming increasingly hard to find (we were lucky enough to find this quite cheap on a Yahoo JP Auction - cheap, probably because the audio cables are split where they once joined - nbd!)

the main difference between the Sony cables and the ones you’ll find on eBay now is the way the pins on the A/V port work: tl;dr originals are flexible, current are not - HD Retrovision detail it here in their quest to make their own PlayStation A/V cables http://www.hdretrovision.com/blog/2017/12/17/the-playstation-journey#yui_3_17_2_1_1521656403254_397
