@Efi sin²(x) is usually the same as sin(x)² (and (sin(x))²).
When dealing with function/operators algebra, though, it's pretty common to have f²(x) mean f(f(x)), though.

@Efi @kellerfuchs there are ways of mapping functions (like the fourier transform) where you have to reason about arbitrary derivatives so they use a variable in that spot.
