How were we even friends (cw: Transphobia)

It really sucks when someone you really liked turns out to be a transphobic religious type that's been harboring the opinions that your character "isn't a real person anymore" and is instead an "Empty, soulless husk", and that trans folks "who choose to transition are cowards, weaklings, failures who reject what they were born to be."

Really makes your night, y'know?

Fuck everything.

Re: How were we even friends (cw: Transphobia)

I'm not even angry at them.

We talked again this morning. The gist of the situation is: They live on a conservative island, their family are 7th Day Adventists, and their dad is a homophobe, the violent sort, and the sort that's violent and angry most of the time.

They can't escape any of it. That they even found folks like me to befriend is a miracle.

They're trying to reach out for help, but just don't know how to ask.

@mawr Ah, shit, SDAs. I came from that background, most of my family still is, and... I am so incredibly lucky they didn't have a hugely negative reaction to me coming out as non-binary.
Most of the church is, in fact, hella conservative and stuck in 1800s morality, with all the puritanical bullshit that goes with it. They're only just barely better than Mormons. :-/
Your friend has my sympathies, and I hope they can get free.
