Resuming my playthrough of the original Gex; I've decided to make this a 100% (all remotes) run. No need to justify it, but I'm doing it because my curiosity about this series has led me to fire this up three times now, and I'll be damned if I end up giving myself an excuse for a fourth attempt.

Gex?!

It's weird to think that I was in the younger end of this game's target demographic (age 11) when it came out, considering how many of the jokes are sailing over my head.

I've finished Kung-Fu-opolis (the second, and hopefully last of the worlds rife with the kind of racism people accepted in '90s monoculture). As an example of the kind of creativity the game's been offering me: the boss is a flying turtle with rocket legs; one of Gex's quips is "It's nice to see Gamera get another gig."

Gex?!

Just hit credits, which treated me to the ending scene I'd heard about on Idle Thumbs ("I wonder what's on HBO?"), as well as an unexpected surprise: a Buckner & Garcia-style song about the title character himself! "T-Rex?" No, he's Gex.

I'm far from finished, however; there are 8 ultra-hard stages in a secret world I'll have to get through. Weird of the game to lock a third of its content away like this, but I'm up to the challenge, as clunky as the platforming involved might be.

Gex?!

I should mention, also, that part of my interest in this comes from the tragic, bizarre, and overcomplicated backstory associated with Gex (pastebin.com/M4xDi2D4 --- a transcription from the manual), almost none of which is in the games themselves. I've been tempted to do something with it; a prequel platformer set in the period where he's a down-and-out skateboarding sex worker roaming the suburbs of Los Angeles in a permanent dissociative state of existence

@Lobst
....punk skater sex worker Gex sounds pretty entertaining!

That's an oddly elaborate backstory. :-)
