@Leucrotta gawd, that's the one thing I really miss about being up here... we've got pines, but they aren't redwoods, and they *feel* distinctly different, and I miss the redwoods *so much*.
@Leucrotta redwood forests are cathedrals.... vertical lines, dappled light, the quiet and stillness, threaded with green and running water... yeah, I get kinda... intense about them. XD
@green and also they're not independent; the landscape redwoods grow on and modify is so much the same as other parts of NorCal, and adjacent to other ecotones - like when you're leaving Cowell, you can walk through what's some kinda alpine meadow - and there's all the smaller stuff like the ferns and trefoils. It's just endlessly fascinating. I think I notice something new every time I go.
@Leucrotta did you know about the albino redwoods?? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albino_redwood the research that's being done on them is so interesting! and just the fact that they exist is amazing, they're so pretty...
@green No, I hadn't known. Thanks!
@green they’ve just such visually intense trees, just the contrast of the curvy organic bases and those huge vertical trunks, and just how bark can differ and older trees might have these big burn marks from past fires.
