True story: I went to majority-black public schools in Baltimore my entire life. We sung the Black National Anthem at my middle school every morning.

But I learned about Juneteenth through an episode of @blackishabc@twitter.com only *three years ago*

There's SO MUCH about Black American history that even those of us in the community are never taught.

I didn't know about Tulsa until maybe six years ago? I only heard about Rosewood last year.

Henrietta Lacks, the Tuskegee experiment -- all after I left school.

@jakebe I only dimly remember hearing about Juneteenth before ten years ago and it only made an impression on me in the 2010s. Tulsa I think I heard about around 2015.

Henrietta Lacks I happened to learn from in an audiobook I listened to around ten years ago.

Tuskeegee experiment I learned about in high school at least, but I was in my late 30s before realizing that "corrupt carpetbagger Reconstruction governments" was a complete and unmitigated lie top to bottom.
