New York City Hall removed statue of Thomas Jefferson. Insanity. I know he owned slaves. Very bad. But he also wrote the Declaration of Independence. We celebrate him for that not for his private life. Taking down his statue is disgusting.

Owning slaves is NOT an aspect of Jefferson's "private life".

It is an objectively immoral action that was nonetheless supported by the American government AND the means by which he attained a great deal of his wealth.

Or is raping slaves the "private life" we look away from?
