Agency, Entitlement
@pzmyers@octodon.social It's not hard at all to imagine, or even to understand, but there's an old adage about people working very hard to not understand what would be against their best interest to understand. Explicitly making all of this about consent requires a lot of people that read the NYT and thus pay their salaries to both admit that acts against which they have preached are in fact fine, and that acts they have said we're fine could be harmful in some contexts.
Agency, Entitlement
@pzmyers@octodon.social Further, a good chunk of society still doesn't get that people who aren't men have and deserve agency, and the right for people to say no goes against the Biblical teachings about who makes the decisions in a relationship. Like it or not, these meta-narratives still run through our modern culture, and rooting them out requires people to admit that maybe the unadulterated Bible ain't a good source of modern morality. Few are ready for that message.
