Can I reasonably expect an apartment background check to look me up on Facebook?

I've got an email from a housing company who want a link to my Facebook profile up front. Their whole website is structured like a university department's PR...appropriate, since I'm looking for apartments in the U-District, but still weird and kinda unprofessional?

@DialMforMara I suppose the question is what you define as "reasonable" in this circumstance.

I wouldn't consider it reasonable, personally, but I wouldn't consider most of modern business practices trying to establish "you're one of the good ones" to be reasonable or even ethical. That said, it's probably standard practice. I tell companies like that, "I don't have one" and wait to see what they do.
