@Azure @rey It's just the realization of "let's build a social network" yeah. I'm finally fed up enough with my pile of CMS garbage that I want to do better.

Anyway the categories and tags will definitely be mutable. I'm still trying to figure out how to support date-based schemata (if I want to at all) and things like newsposts that get associated with comic posts or whatever.

@fluffy @Azure @rey I have many feature requests and if you write it in Java or Rust, I will offer code revires. If you pick Python, I'll probably follow but I'll grumble about it. :)

@literorrery @Azure @rey Python is the least-bad runtime for my deployment platforms of choice. Also it already provides a bunch of the fundamental libraries (in particular Flask, Jinja2, and watchdog). I decided I'd be doing it as Python ages ago and nothing has dissuaded me from that.

@literorrery @Azure @rey my top criterion: must be deployable on Dreamhost (or any other Passenger-enabled shared hosting) without VPS. Supporting Heroku is also nice.

@fluffy @Azure @rey Sorry, this was a huge argument at work about six months ago when a freshly-hired senior developer decided the latest project would be in Python for "development speed" at a company with new native Python text and damned few Python speakers. On top of still vaguely feeling like Python killed Perl, which I confess is still my ugly mutant baby despite knowing it needs to die. I have a lingering grudge against Python that's less about _it_ and more about _me_. That and types.

@literorrery @Azure @rey Well, that's just silly. If you own your own service stack end-to-end, use whatever development language makes sense.

Personally I also feel way more productive in Python for services simply because it doesn't physically hurt me (as much) to write it.

@fluffy @Azure @rey When you don't have domain expertise and you're facing a business-enforced external deadline, choosing a language with minimal in-house support doesn't make sense. I expect senior developers to be able to make business-level decisions, not just technology-level ones.

@literorrery @Azure @rey I totally agree and that has zero relevance on how I build my own software for my own hobby purposes.

@fluffy @Azure @rey Hence why I said the grudge had nothing really to do with you, merely that I have one and that I'm already aware it's not entirely rooted in logic. At least, I thought I said it. I was, ironically, trying to stave off arguments about technology by admitting my biases to stave off any perception that my comment was based on technology.

I suspect I've simply complicated things. I had a really stressful day and I'm not at my best right now.

@literorrery I mean I understood you saying that which is why it’s baffling why you kept on telling me why you hate python after I gave my reasons for doing it in python which have nothing to do with your reasons for hating python

@fluffy ... brain glitch, most likely. I have no better explanation. Apologies.
