ugh, Masto filters are not very well-documented… does "drop instead of hide" remove tombstones too? do filters ignore capitalization? gotta read the code to know
@noiob i don't know but I think hide just hides from your timeline and there is no way to get it back if you remove filter
i think drop doesn't even get from server.
it should be easier to filter toots. why don't we have regex? or a more user friendly filter thing? i have to run like 10 filters to get rid of all the Twitter cross poster crap.
@tootbrute I don't understand what you're saying in the first two paragraphs. Regexes were the old way, which was in a lot of ways even worse, because it was not documented at all.
Also you should be able to filter stuff like specific CWs, specific apps, apply CWs to toots containing specific keywords, filter stuff like emoji or hashtags… a lot of things
@noiob all your suggestions are great.
it's true, i have no idea how they work but 'drop' instead of hide sounds stronger so I use that.
@tootbrute someone explained it to me https://mastodon.social/@trwnh/102335563223976995
@noiob ha tombstones. i like that term.
i assume those are the blank spaces where filtered toot should be.
@tootbrute yeah, it's a technical term, I believe
@trwnh that's good, ty
My understanding is drop also applies to apps, not only the web interface, but the other one doesn't, is that correct?
@trwnh ah, I use Tusky so both should work
I hate tombstones though
This is part of an overarching problem with Mastodon, and a way in which it's even worse than Twitter. Twitter has a help page that explains stuff
