Dang, Gamefreak actually have to remake every single Pokémon model they wanna use in SwSh because they didn't transfer right? Does that mean all the 'mons in PikaVee were freshly made, too? Also I hadn't even considered Dynamax needing more detailed models, that's a good point.
Honestly as someone who hasn't seriously played anything past second gen, I couldn't care less either way but hoo boy have people been asshats about it
@noiob my understanding is that they are using old models, the 3ds ones are waaay better than it could actually render, specifically for the purposes of futureproofing
(i'm still excited for the new games though)
@monorail there was a famitsu interview that clarified a lot of things. I quite like the idea of only including a selection of old gen's Pokémon in newer games to make balancing not completely impossible. Eventually they were going to have to make that move https://nintendoeverything.com/game-freak-elaborates-on-pokemon-sword-shields-inability-to-bring-in-pokemon-not-in-the-galar-pokedex-pokemon-home-more/
@monorail hm that doesn't actually include what's being said in https://twitter.com/XenoChu/status/1149840551702925312
@monorail honestly I'm not sure about the models, I doubt there's any file format issues that can't be overcome (Eevee once made sth that converted 3DS models and animations into webGL), but going from something that would render well on a 3DS to something that would still look good on a 1080p screen is a massive difference
@noiob people have upscale 3ds games to 1080p, they look great
@monorail they still look like a 3Ds game running at 1080p
@monorail but even if they can just import all the models that's a lot of work retexturing and redoing the facial animations
@monorail the ears are more quadrangular in Let's Go, but the tail seems to have the same amount of polygons, its not-quite-round in the same way
