Goddammit, Teamviewer ended support for macOS 10.6, how the heck am I supposed to help my grandma figure out her scanner now
@noiob screen sharing is still a thing you can open, and iMessage supports initiating screen sharing with your contacts
@ticky I think 10.6 might be too old for iMessage
@noiob oh noooo
@ticky …yeah. A lot of my relatives are on ancient versions of OSX because I guess updating might make the computer too slow? idk I'd rather have them not use an ancient version of Safari
@ticky then again our 2007 iMac family computer is still working on El Cap (?) after a RAM upgrade (and cranking up the fans because the graphics card glitches when it overheats)
@mkb that's not for private users at all, is it?
@noiob Good luck explaining what a right click is
@onf my grandma isn't stupid, just old
she actually played through all of the Myst games except the newest one
@noiob til my mom is stupid :p
@onf also it's a Mac, it doesn't have a right click button by default
@noiob maybe jobs was onto something
@onf all I can say is I don't think Windows is that bad, but I really appreciate not having to do Windows tech support for relatives
@noiob Linux here...
@onf what distro/de?
I've found debian stable/ XFCE to be a good combo, albeit for my little siblings who know what a right click is.
I spent quite a while playing around with XFCE's customization (like using whisker-menu instead of the default one or adding a dock-like launcher for my little brother who's used to macOS) but maintenance is a breeze, I just ssh in via my phone when I'm at my parents' and run the update thing.
@onf only thing that can be annoying is driver troubles but that's more about it being an ancient laptop than Linux' fault
@noiob Ubuntu 16.04, Unity. Thing is I get questions like "how do I use the browser/print/edit images" (and "this is too hard do it for me"). SSH is a decent idea for administrative matters I guess.
@onf yeah my mom has this "this is too hard I give up" thing too…
didn't macOS have a remote desktop thing that didn't cost 90€?
