what the fuck is this website, it absolutely decimates my Firefox https://www.steamdeck.com/en/
@noiob What are your system specs?
@onfy Ryzen 5600X / Radeon R9 390 8 GB / 32 GB of 3600 MHz RAM
@noiob Firefox supports GPU decode though?
@onfy I mean, it uses GPU decode, Task Manager shows it at 100%
@noiob Well... what program are you using that shows GPU usage anyway? I thought Task Manager was a Windows thing.
And tbh, the GPU decode on the 5600 is pretty buggy anyway, I had to disable it. Hopefully it'll get better in future drivers.
@onfy uh, I am on Windows
@noiob Weird. Why did I think you were a Linux user?
@noiob Also though, I don't think Firefox *on Linux* has GPU decode, meaning a 3100 would seem to be enough for that site in software. Ergo... disabling GPU decode might fix things for you too.
@onfy yeah, but other sites work fine and I like GPU decode
@noiob I honestly don't get the need for GPU decode on such a fast desktop CPU. Mobile for saving power, or with a low-power CPU, like an Atom or something ARM I get.
But a video-heavy page like that probably would break stuff on such an old card.
@onfy I also use Linux, albeit right now just on my work machine
@noiob Work, home... what's the difference these days?
@onfy well, a kinda underpowered Thinkpad versus aforementioned tower
@noiob hmm, there's an idea.
@noiob I guess we kinda built anti-PCs? I got a weak CPU intending to eventually upgrade it, but I lucked out in getting an RX 5600. (That said, I started out with a 550.)
@onfy oh wow, yeah, Task Manager reports that it maxes out my GPU's video decode
