Computer help request urgent

Hey, my PC just died and I have no fucking clue what to do about it. It wouldn't come out of hibernation, so I tried to power it down, and it wouldn't react to the power or reset buttons. I switched it off and on again via the PSU switch, but now it won't turn on at all.

I've cracked it open and it seems like the PSU clicks on when the power button is pressed, and there's definitely heat coming from it and the PSU fan starts up, but nothing else powers up.

@Vordus do your activity LEDs blink, do your fans spin up? if not, good chance your PSU is shot. The good news is that if you bought a decent PSU it hopefully died without taking any of the other parts with it, so good chance everything else is fine

@Vordus also since I'm seeing that it's semi-modular: Do not reuse the cables with a new PSU, they're not standardized and I've heard of people frying their parts by assuming (as it is anywhere else in a compute) that if it fits it's probably compatible

re: Computer help request urgent

@noiob good to know!

re: Computer help request urgent

@noiob yeah, I tried it again and the fans all spun up but no beep. Then I tried it another time and now the PSU fan just shudders and goes dead.

re: Computer help request urgent

@Vordus your computer has a speaker? dang

re: Computer help request urgent

@noiob wait, do computers not go beep any more? Have I been imagining the beep in my head every time I switched a computer on?

re: Computer help request urgent

@Vordus usually mainboards still have a header for a beeper but don't have one soldered to the board. Actually, I'm not sure if my board even has the header anymore, but it has four LEDs for diagnostic purposes (the really fancy boards have 7-segment displays for POST codes)

re: Computer help request urgent

@Vordus that said, you can just check if you have a beeper, it's usually a centimeter-diameter plastic cylinder
