it only does composite input, which sort of blows but whatever

it doesn't have speakers, which sort of blows but whatever

i have completely analog (read: lagless) ways of splitting out the audio signal to put it into other speakers, and the picture is still better than my other crt by a long shot. and the important thing is that now i have both

@monorail wait, what is it if it doesn't have speakers? some kind of broadcast equipment or computer monitor?

@monorail oh huh, what are the odds.

I thought they all had RGB though?

Follow

@onfy @monorail most of them have the inputs on cards you stick in the back afaik

@noiob @monorail funky, so it's possible (or was) to just buy the connector you want? I guess if she ever found one she could do that.

@noiob @onfy in the grand scheme of things this is a pretty crappy one, it doesn't look expandable

but i still like it a lot more than my other crt

@monorail @noiob That seems... weird though? I thought the reason people are obsessed with PVMs is because they have RGB inputs as a rule. RGB being, you know, obviously the best.

@onfy @noiob in general if they have rgb inputs that's good but if they don't, they're still extremely good crts

@monorail @noiob Huh, I wasn't sure it made that much of a difference. Interesting.

@monorail @noiob like, I know if I bought a modern day professional sort of TV these days, it'd mainly be to get a model that doesn't have that fucking "smart" spyware oh for the love of god get it out of my face please.

@onfy @noiob see if i was going to buy a modern tv the only two things on the checklist are "youtube and twitch"

oh and game mode i guess

@monorail @noiob youtube and twitch without adblock? just kill me now!

@onfy @noiob you raise a good point; i hadn't thought of that

but i think pihole would do it

@monorail @noiob twitch embeds ads into the god damn video stream and youtube serves them from the same domain. pihole is useless.

@onfy @noiob hmm i thought i saw someone figured out a thing for twitch recently

anyway generally the things i'd be watching on twitch would be a channel i'm subbed to, or melee tournaments (where there's already a bunch of downtime between sets so they can run ads without it getting in the way of anything) so that's not so bad

@monorail @noiob Haven't really found much myself, best thing I've been able to do is streamlink with --twitch-disable-ads which merely pauses the stream when it detects an ad break. And yeah I'm a bit of a freeloader, sorry everyone.

@monorail @noiob I'll also note that virtually every adbreak I've had on twitch has just been a purple screen with awful music and cringey corporate phrases like "you're about to see a stream in its natural habitat... oh look there it is."

And it's always 1080p regardless of what the actual stream resolution is.

@onfy @noiob not any worse worse than the sponsor ads that they actually show on the tournament streams :P

@onfy @noiob "PAPA JOHNS MAKES YOU A BETTER GAMER" okay papa johns thank you for sponsoring the melee tournament, i will not eat your pizza

@monorail @noiob so anyway, BEHOLD, hamsters?

twitch actually scales the adbreak properly now which surprises me.
