@frostwolf the only upside of that model is being able to attach storage to the 3G modem port, which is superceded by the SD2Vita as far as I know
long
@frostwolf yes, I personally don't play any cartridge games because I don't own any. The actual memory cards are super expensive. I have a Lite partly because it has some internal storage so I just don't have to bother with it.
I'm not sure how hard it is to make sd2vita optional. It seems to be possible as per https://old.reddit.com/r/VitaPiracy/comments/zt0vyo/can_you_use_cartridges_on_sd2vita/ but you need to reboot every time and with how cheap micro sd cards have gotten I just don't see the point
for everything else, https://vita.hacks.guide. it has setup guides for both plugins you can use for sd2vita
re: long
@frostwolf Slim, not Lite
re: long
@noiob neat, thanks!
eBay listings often have a small memory card addon for like $10 more, and considering the console's around $100, that's not too bad. Would at least get us the ability to play cartridge games with fiddling.
I bet we'll have a 3DS situation where we just go mostly or entirely digital, so it's probably a moot point!
re: long
@frostwolf it's just as convenient as on the 3DS, you can have all your games on the main screen with folders and everything
re: long
@noiob Nice! That's awesome. =^.^=
re: long
@noiob Planning on signing into PSN before doing the hack, to set up remote play and install Zen Pinball 2.
...Can we still access PSN after hacking? maybe by reverting back to OFW and then rehacking, if nothing else? It's really nice that we could still access the 3DS's shop and things (though we haven't bought much there, but still).
re: long
@frostwolf you need to spoof the current firmware version but afaik you can access PSN no problem. I think my Vita achievements from pirated games show up somewhere on a profile of mine
re: long
@frostwolf can't talk about remote play, my ps4 is an offline-only machine until there's an exploit for it
re: long
@noiob Apparently, if you deliberately mess up the network gateway setting, it connects to LAN but not to the internet! Then you can proxy remote play with a computer that can connect to the internet. It actually works. :3
re: long
@noiob (although crap, that might not work for the Vita unless you have /another/ proxy set up somewhere on your LAN, e.g. on the hotspot phone – we're using Wireguard to connect to the proxy machine but the Vita probably can't install it)
re: long
@noiob Oh awesome!
Hah, we ACCIDENTALLY "pirated" a few games when the PS3 CFW we installed turned demos into full games without ever telling us or having a setting to turn that off.
That's the main reason we ended up reverting back to stock(-with the patch to allow installing CFW again).
Also ended up deliberately restoring the console from backup to get rid of the trophy we shouldn't have been able to get.
re: long
@noiob Hmmm, maybe we should go for a Vita 2000 instead of a 1000? How much of a difference does the screen make?
re: long
@frostwolf dunno, I've never seen a direct comparison
re: long
@noiob honestly I'm leaning towards a 2000 now just for LCD peace-of-mind – no burnin, no uniformity issues. And the internal memory and not having to find a charger.
The 1000 looks /so damn nice/ though (love that uniform front glass). But, yeah.
@frostwolf tbh I got the 2k because it came in pretty colors
@noiob oo. Yeah that light blue looks /nice/...
still unsure whether I wanna go for that or plain black though.
@frostwolf I got the neon orange one, but I also had the lime green / white one in the running, I just won the orange auction first (importing from Japan)
@noiob Hm! The SD2Vita takes up the cartridge slot though right?
Maybe we should just get a wifi Vita + memory card. Maybe we can use a small internal memory card for cartridge saves and an SD2Vita when we're not playing cartridge games.
