when it arrives, i will use it zero times, instead disassembling it immediately and attempting to desolder a part

the normal gba link cable doesn't have the VCC and ground pins

so i'm using this guy for its connector and basically nothing else. i want to attach something else on the other side of those pins, and it needs power

@noiob @monorail The GBA does support the printer then? Literally a few minutes ago I was playing a game with prominent printer support...

@onfy I don't see why it wouldn't, it just plugs into the link port?

@noiob Look,

I'm kind of used to Nintendo just abandoning stuff.

@onfy gameboy backwards compatibility was pretty solid

@onfy the whole link cable situation seems a bit complicated though, there's three generations of them with various levels of compatibility. the printer came with a special cable that had both DMG and second-gen plugs, which should fit in any game boy except the micro (which doesn't do game boy games anyways)

@noiob I was recently thinking about how the Micro is incompatible with the GameCube cable too.

@onfy @noiob i believe that the micro link port has all the same pins as the normal gba link port, so people have made cables to make it work

@onfy I wonder if it works with the adapter, sadly those go for astronomical prices with no third-party solutions in sight (except for an open hardware solution that I'd still have to source connectors for)

@noiob If I get a micro I might need to seek one out.

@onfy I have a micro. I could probably harvest a plug from one of those aftermarket USB charging cables, at least the one I have seems to have all the pins

@noiob Oh yeah it uses a rechargeable battery. So they did one port for both.
