if anyone has an inkling of what to do to fix it i'd love to give something a shot, otherwise i'll probably just reinstall

lots of packages seem to just not be installable, and "sudo apt -f install" does nothing

@cinnamon i am in no way a debian expert but my first guess is that you have something weird going on in your sources.list, i'd say either some busted third party repos or some mismatched distributions
