packetcat plays Starfield

this is the most lackluster accessibility menu I've seen in a AAA game in a while

packetcat plays Starfield

uhh how do I dock with the Nova Galactic Staryard

no prompt is coming up

packetcat plays Starfield

oh hey, Bethesda magic at work

the dock prompt was bugged out

had to reload a save to get it

packetcat plays Starfield

alright got the second artifact

taking a break for lunch, will continue after

performance wise I'm definitely GPU bound as expected

I have to play at Medium preset at 1440p with FSR2 to get 60ish

oh look at what dropped today, hopefully Alex's optimized settings will make things slightly better

I mentioned the lackluster accessibility settings in Starfield

one important thing that is missing is a FOV (field of view) slider and this game's default FOV is downright claustrophobic

a first person AAA game in 2023 shipping without a FOV slider is quite frankly unacceptable

its the most basic accessibility setting y'all

packetcat plays Starfield

oh look at this cowboy mofo

thoughts on the game so far:

- oh god the menu UX is horrible

- character animations in dialogue look better than previous Bethesda games but still feel a bit...stiff

- the guns feel...fine, nothing special

- space travel...more like fast travel

- the only companion character I like so far is Andreja

oh another thing, the whole "digipick" lockpicking mechanic sucks just like I thought it would when they first showed it off in a trailer

really kinda impressive just how boring each and every planet I've landed on Starfield is

No Man's Sky did this way better at its launch and NMS wasn't particularly good at launch

y'know I've been mainlining the main story in this game because multiple people suggested doing that until a certain point

kinda wanna do some side quests though, will do a few over the coming week I guess

so the reason I dislike the digipick lockpicking system is that it is essentially a shitty puzzle

and that's like one of my biggest pet peeves in video games

I don't like puzzles in video games and video games that are not puzzle games usually put in the most uninteresting puzzles in the name of idk...some sort of barrier, another mechanic? its on some AAA game dev checklist somewhere?

the thing about Starfield that's really getting me is that I care about none of the characters, major or minor and the narrative is not doing anything to make me care

like I could put up with bad menu UX, mediocre procgen if the narrative and the characters were making me feel things but they aren't

coming to this from BG3, it just all feels very tropey and by the numbers

one of those "what if scenarios" that I've been thinking about is what if this game had come out earlier in the year before BG3

how would critical and wider player reception of Starfield be in that case?

hahahaha omg

404media.co/starfield-bug-forc

"Starfield players are reporting a bug that prevents them from firing their weapons in the game. The easiest solution? Changing your character’s gender. If you started with a male character, changing it to female in one of the game’s genetics facilities fixes the bug, and the opposite is true as well."

so I started doing a sidequest, namely the UC Vanguard faction quest

...its kinda interesting which is not surprising, Bethesda seems to be better at the side quests than the main quest

why does this game not have local maps for its cities -_-

packetcat plays Starfield

finished up the UC Vanguard faction quest line

that final mission was definitely one of the better ones I've played so far

so as a result of finishing a major faction quest in Starfield I was rewarded with a penthouse apartment

its unfurnished...can I buy furniture in this game? if so from where?

one of the few remaining good things about Bethesda games is that they have cheat codes in the form of console commands

so I gave myself a bunch of money, end game items and some more of the skill tree and the game is basically a sandbox now which makes it much better for me

@packetcat remember that that disables achievements, so if you still want those tracked there's a mod to fix that
