Ok, computer... let's start with RAM. It's a Pentium II so it uses SDRAM, with a maximum clock of 100mhz. Pretty low compared to a new PC. Anyway, I currently have a 256MB 133mhz module installed, since the board's max is 100mhz it's running underclocked. This is completely fine but the capacity is maybe excessive for running software from 1999. On the other hand, no need to worry about swapping. That could be especially useful running on CF without DMA. I have choices.

Then again my concept was sort of a hand me down PC/one you've been running for a while and upgraded a little in ~2002, so maybe it's more reasonable.

It's not actually that different from my own childhood, just I was rocking a freaking 486 in 2002. But this is the computer I wished I had.

This is silly, but I think I'll look up computer ads from 1999 and 2002 and see what they were advertising.

Problem: I need to find a decent archive of them.

I found a server ad from 1999, so it's certainly at the top end of you could get back then. And... it comes with a whopping 64MB. How far we've come...

Upgradable to 2GB... if you're a fucking millionaire!

Anyway I think 256MB is definitely ridiculous for the standards of 99.

I'll also note that it comes with a whopping 9GB SCSI hard drive.

Ok, the top end server comes with 128 entire mb ram.. for the low price of $7299.

This is the second god damn time I had to rewrite something on my phone this weekend because the internet went down when I hit send.

capitalism also is very reliable... AT FAILING! but unfortunately not enough to stop being able to sustain itself

massive irony how cell phones have become the most reliable communication device, I guess because of 911 requirements that somehow no longer apply to wires (good old regulatory capture)

Tried looking for 2002 on my phone and got 9/11. Gates did it?

I guess I got lucky before, these are all computer related ads instead of ads for computers. And looking through them on my phone sucks.

And when you think about it the terrorists who flew a plane into the WTC probably used a Windows PC at one point. Bill Gates clearly is responsible for this. /s
