i wonder if signal forcing everyone to add a number to their name inadvertently caused an influx of sensitive information to be exposed?

like, how many people do you think made that number
- a pin they actually have somewhere
- a phone number segment
- a house number
- an important year

but honestly since you essentially have to reroll to get one you want ppl will either not bother or stop at something that's okay

@archenoth looking at discord, the random number added does have its advantages, like making it harder to guess a famous person's username even if they get their nick on there, and no name squatting. I like not having to come up with a unique username since "shork" is often taken

i mostly meant that, when i picked my username, i'm pretty sure signal asked me to enter a number, and explained that having one was required :blobcatsad:

and so, this post was mostly just me thinking outloud about the effects of that
