I'm setting up a new 3D printer. I say this just to keep a record for how long it takes until I want to throw it, too, into a lake

The new printer is a Bambu P1S. wasn't too hard to set up, way easier than the Ender nonsense I've done before.

we got this thing for reliability, not speed, but it estimates it can do that print the Ender 5 Plus kept failing in about 2 hours.
The Ender 5 estimated 8, and once it started printing the ETA jumped to 2 days

I'm probably gonna try and turn the Ender 5 into a severely overgrown plotter.

since the extruder and hot end are the parts that are unreliable. No need for either of them if the thing is just raising and lowering a pen and driving around the build plate

I'm not 100% sure from the webcam (the Bambu video feed is like 1 FPS?) but I think printing the same model that I was failing on my ender 5 has just failed in the same way on the Bambu

completely different slicer too! there must be some kind of innate evil deep within the model itself, some kind of sacred geometry invoking demons of air and darkness

I was wrong, it just looked like it had failed.

It printed just fine!

there's some minor issues which I think are caused by the printer wobbling. it's not on the most steady table, and this one is moving WAY faster than the ender 5.

so maybe I'll slow it down until we can get a new place to mount it

BTW for the reference, the gender question was an optional profile field in the app that I bothered to click on. it's not like the printer demanded my gender before it'd let me print.

also the little monochrome LCD it has is small-but-not-too-small, cute, and has amazing contrast. I'm kinda envious, as I'm currently working on my own monochrome-LCD (although the current prototype is an OLED) project (ProgKey), and now I'm like "why doesn't mine look like this?"
