if it had a usb-a connector this could in theory be useful? you could run a drive from a cell phone charger...

that would solve the wii u power issue, and maybe make a whole lot more

@noiob how many amps can a 2.5" drive suck down
only drive i've ever seen that has issues running off a normal usb is a super old kingston ssd

@onfy idk, spinning up a drive might take a decent amount of power

@noiob all the 2.5" hdds i've had are weirdly chill running off 5v, 500ma 🤷‍♀️

@onfy dunno, I'd rather not have brownouts and the Wii U has both USB ports on the same rail so it should be fine

@noiob my plan was to plug the power into a phone charger

@onfy why would you do that when there's 5V right there?

@noiob because the wii u is weak?

honestly my rationale is:
external 3.5" drives with ac adapters are expensive and about impossible to find under 1tb
3.5" sata drives are also harder to get than 2.5" drives, and they'd need a 12v ac adapter which is harder to obtain (it's easy to get a cheap safe phone charger)
