i got cell service!
all i had to do was turn 4g on for the sim
why it was off by default i have no fucking idea
maybe its an android 15 thing, maybe its a fairphone change to the rom.. I don't know but fuck I'm annoyed.
build FP4.SREL.15.14.4
went into the Three store and they didn't know what was up
I discovered this myself after digging around in settings after leaving the store.
I feel like someone working at a cell provider store should know their way around settings on current and the previous android and iOS versions
also for reference found it under settings > network and internet > SIMs > (the sim) > then 4G calling.
enabling that it just immediately connected to the network, i guess it's a fairphone addition
when doing IT sysadmin and support course we had to learn how to direct without sight on a client computer we are supporting for 3 versions of windows and 1 linux distro.
sure it was in education but bleh..
it really does not feel like a high ask for work, to know you general way around 2 versions of each OS at least on first party flagships
which should be enough to guess your way around anything thrown at you
or if not off the top of the head,
have a cheatsheet for staff,
we had spec sheets to read up on in retail if required selling electronics at a department store
voiced this to a friend who told me it could be hardware flags which just don't exist on ASOP or something.. so maybe it wouldn't have helped but bleh
@LottieVixen the airplane mode is probably the problem. VPN shouldn't be, since wifi calling + sms doesn't actually have a "location"
@noiob so ended up talking to someone else, they might have just done an audit and forgot wifi calling and sms only users may exist...
@noiob but I have been on airplane mode for years and kept my number without issue
