This is one of those devices that make you go "Why?". 16 cameras in one device, that should be about enough https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/4/10/17218758/light-l16-review-camera-photos
@noiob i can imagine the patenting on this would make an open hardware implementation a pain in the ass to make.
@soundsofearth I also don't really see the point, like my phone has two rear cameras and I'm already struggling to make use of them both
@noiob i think it'd be empowering to have stronger camera capacity in the hands of people who are non-tech non-police. you're in comp-sci, i presume you have an idea of how strong surveillance in many circumstances can be, especially with new techniques such as camera arrays and and shit
I'm completely talking out of my ass here but I can imagine this really isn't prohibitively expensive to manufacture parts-wise
@soundsofearth Hm, it would certainly be interesting to experiment with camera arrays in an open hardware context, but imo a single camera module has become so good it's gonna be hard to justify the extra hardware and software needed. And a cheap-ish compact point-and-shoot probably outperforms this thing just by virtue of having space for mechanical parts and lenses.
fwiw I do love the way they're arranged
