because of the authors randomly interspersing old Italian words for common/irrelevant items in an English book.
I think the most egrarious/odd example of doing this I've heard about is that in "Borgia: Faith & Fear", Leonardi Da Vinci is the only character to speak Italian, and does so for all his lines while everyone around him speaks English.
