it's also really frustrating because, even if everyone realizes this is happening, it's *extremely* hard to hold a mob accountable since focus can't be easily distributed among a group without dehumanizing it
these are *individual people* doing nasty things; not some faceless abstract entity like a mob

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz but what i was getting at is that the people who are in the mobs i see usually aren't the victims friends
i mean, their friends *do* feel pressure… but not to join the mob–they often feel pressure to withdraw
this has other problems, because that evaporates the support network of the person being attacked, meaning those friends have basically become enablers

@thingywott @ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz precisely what happened with my group. people ducked out in fear of being the next target. lots of people got doxed merely for speaking out about it.
