I need to buy a big floppy hat, because otherwise I am going to have a serious sunstroke episode walking to the bus stop from volunteering one of these days--especially as it gets hotter. :|

IN OTHER NEWS volunteer day! I saw a sad owl (very fragile, they don't know what's wrong with it), a bunch of raccoons (I was learning how to clean their enclosure and I got to do "hazing" which meant being scary at them which was FUN) and an eagle (from a distance, between slats).

the eagle is an adult and doesn't need hazing; last I heard they had three, and all of them are pretty keen to murder any human who gets within reach of them. plus eagles are HUGE. like, that eagle could take me down, no problem. they're really intimidating up close. XD

@starkatt to keep them from associating humans with food, which would get them killed in the wild. there's a lot of critters at the wildlife center that I don't get to see, not in person--bear and bobcat cubs, seal pups, all kinds of birds, rabbits, deer. there's a rule of "NO PEEKING," because the hope is to release the animals back to the wild--but if they're too habituated to human contact, they can't be released, because they'll be a danger to humans, and vice versa.
