also, definitely look into spaced repetition, since it makes language learning significantly easier than you'll likely remember it being
anki (https://apps.ankiweb.net/) in particular has a really nice spaced repetition system

@ctrlaltdog@chitter.xyz also, i know you're not thinking of learning japanese, but i highly recommend following the first chapter of textfugu: http://www.textfugu.com/season-1/hard-way/
it has a lot of neat tricks in it that can make you much more likely to succeed at following through if you decide to take the plunge
