it's really funny to me that nethack has a creature called the mail daemon that delivers mail from someone spectating the game or, iirc, actual emails you get if you're playing on a linux machine with mail configured

it shows up and disappears in less than a turn, but if you manage to kill one, you stop getting mail

and i feel like, with the possible exception of slash'em, that's probably the only roguelike that ever had something like that in it, huh?

@monorail i only say slash'em because i think that's the version of nethack that accepts all the funky features that got rejected from nethack (which is a super-high bar to begin with, so it's extremely kitchen-sink-esque)

but also like, I couldn't picture something like that in angband or crawl
