does any windows people like, know how to debug an opaque issue like getting stuck on the welcome screen during login? or is the only solution to blindly do the troubleshooting steps that random people have posted to their blogs???

@SuricrasiaOnline i'm late, buuut in case you run into something weird again, sometimes the event viewer can have info on things like this!

i usually make a new view called "wtf" that's just errors and critical messages from the main system categories and consult it whenever something inexplicable happens

you can find out a loooot of bizarre things from those logs

@SuricrasiaOnline oh, and while this wouldn't work for login stuff, sometimes procmon is a lifesaver!

it's not quiiite as nice as strace on linux, but it can show you what the heck programs are doing if you attach to them

also, if your system crashes and reboots, you will usually have a dumpfile on your drive that windbg can open, which will give you the stack trace and process that wrecked you
