pokémon direct
i escaped to the bathroom to watch the direct
the starters all look kinda samey, which was slightly disappointing... but i am Very intrigued about the new region. i'm interested to see how they change stuff up this time around
re: pokémon, kinda meta
@typhlosion I'm 100% fine with the formula
pokémon, kinda meta
@typhlosion I liked the ways sun and moon did things differently by replacing gym battles, I wanted to see more things changed up like that...my favorite pokemon experience recently was 'Crystal Clear', a romhack that made pokemon crystal open world, as in, you can do the gyms in any order, and the levels of things scale up as you go... something like that would be great for an actual game, for me
pokémon, kinda meta
@fluttergirly i definitely think a bit of nonlinearity would be a fantastic way to shake up the format without changing too much. it was a really weird/cool feeling going to Kanto in SoulSilver and being able to fight the Kanto gym leaders in any order; doing that in a brand new region would kick ass
pokémon, kinda meta
i've seen more and more complaints that the pokémon format is getting stale, which... okay, i get that. it's gotten way more refined over the years, but it's the same basic gameplay loop. they seem to save most of their big experimentation for spinoffs
this is nothing new for nintendo games; the 2d marios get the same complaints
i've done a bit of pondering about how you'd go about changing that for pokémon, and haven't thought of much. eager to hear others' thoughts
