do you rp
@Oneironott shit, i forgot about /me
@typhlosion or good old ':'
@typhlosion i used to explicitly use *this notation* but then at some point i just stopped notating it at all. runs around screaming
@typhlosion I used to be an asterisk purist but so many clients interpret it as various different things that I was forced to pivot to dashes
@typhlosion *rp* dialogue (out of rp talk)
@Siph @typhlosion either this or *rp* "dialogue" (and out of rp)
@typhlosion *Like this, generally in full sentences.* "With dialogue in quotes, because some platforms italicize the rest and some don't, so it keeps things clearer."
@typhlosion this needs to be a multiple choice question tbh bc it depends
@typhlosion i rp *like this* on discord but i use a more booky style on roll20 (like this, and then "fuck," she said)
@typhlosion generally more serious RPs get the latter style
@typhlosion We do *like this* where we can, and on Matrix we do _\*like this\*_ which is awkward but makes it do the stars. It /used/ to have a bug where straight \*this\* wouldn't work but _\*this\*_ would, I think that's fixed now but we never broke the habit.
@typhlosion ah, back on our muckpose like this
@typhlosion I usually do both asterisks around rp and quotes around dialog.
@typhlosion .* Excuse us, where is the option for real, proper actions (i.e. `/me`)?
We use `/me` on things that support it.
On things that /don't/ support it, including things where `/me` is actually just an alias for italicizing the entire message, we use asterisks (actual asterisks, not italics).
@moonbolt IM SORRY I FORGOT /ME ;____;
@typhlosion Too late to vote, but another "/me roleplays like this!" fellow here, as supported by IRC and XMPP. I wish this hadn't been lost in more mainstream conversation platforms; I can totally get overlooking it in the poll (as you noted to others).
I think Skype at some point supported this, too? And Google Talk-- err, Hangouts-- err, Chat.. whatever it's called now still supports "/me", though that theoretically uses XMPP underneath, and it's morphed over time.
@digitalfox @typhlosion Even Steam chat supports it, surprisingly! And actually does a really good job, too, unlike some platforms *cough*Discord*cough*.
@typhlosion mayhaps a followup poll: how do peeps do ooc
@typhlosion my nonserious answer is that i always use whatever format doesn't work on that platform AKA typing '/me' and forgetting it doesn't work
