It's really weird doing code again after … *checks notes* … a year of not really coding, and the better part of "since late 2019" of barely being involved with it / largely avoiding it.

There's definitely still a measure of professional burnout, but through a bizarre, incremental project, I feel like I'm getting back a lot of what has languished for years too long.

Now if only I could find employ where I could apply that, in ruby, that isn't "but can you use rails."

Don't get me wrong, I adore ruby and all its silly little foibles and peculiarities, but heck do I often wish it weren't utterly dominated by web frameworks in the west.

@itspomf im really sad it doesn't even seem to have sdl bindings anymore. can't even make games with it

@typhlosion I think there might be something like "Gosu" or whatever that provides some hooks into it, but it seemed really limited in what it could do without a lot of heavy lifting.

Right now I'm building a layer on top of Vulkan for that express purpose (today will include automagic resource and memory management). Audio, input, and window layers will probably be next.

It is long overdue for Hephaestus to be reborn (yes, the name is a *horrible* pun).
