@hoppet pls tell me about wind controllers omg omg
@artemis so basically they're shaped like clarinets or saxophones or the like, tend to have fingering configurations that match a few different irl instruments (trumpet, flute, saxophone). the EWI has keys that are activated by capacative touch. the mouthpiece sends midi CC 2 (and also 34 if you configure it to send 14 bit) based on the breath. usually on the back is a set of roller-type dealies that you use to change octave.
@hoppet whoaaa
@artemis also watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZaUPGjjA4c
@artemis in addition to midi out most EWIs also have patches built into them, sometimes configurable, with an 1/4" out
@artemis i can't speak to other wind controllers because EWI has pretty much dominated the scene since the 80s but i'm sure capabilities vary with other brands
@hoppet these are so cool!!!
@artemis @hoppet wind controllers are also responsible for two of my favorite videos ever:

@typhlosion @artemis also mmm i really like that ewi patch
@typhlosion @artemis nurads (the one in the eddie ewi video) seem pretty sweet but i don't know if i'd like the split keys like that
