"piracy doesn't hurt sales"
i'm seriously unsurprised by this, most people i knew who were pirates also bought a lot of media

@witchfynder_finder before i stopped pirating (mostly) altogether (unless it's related to accessibility or the creators aren't gonna see $ otherwise) i used to pirate to try stuff out all the time
it all started with winamp, really

@witchfynder_finder i still never paid for winamp

@witchfynder_finder pretend i said "WinRar"

@vahnj Accessibility is a big reason for me, too. Music is my big vice (in lots of areas, not just WRT piracy =P) and a lot of the shit I like you just can't find on shelves, so I'd pirate lots of it and pick up a CD if I ever saw one in the wild.
Now I pay for Spotify every month. People will be willing to pay if you make it easy to get the stuff.

@witchfynder_finder yea exactly. i watched most of steven universe by pirating it just bc it was impossible to watch otherwise since i didn't have cable. now i can watch it legally so i'm keeping up \o/

@vahnj In the past month I've bought at least one movie that I pirated the month before. Also in general I buy things that I really really enjoy because I like having shelves full of media.
