I read A Wrinkle in Time, and I'm not sure what to think. It reminded me a lot of Diane Duane's Wizard series, only more jarring on the religious undertones, and with weird pacing. Like, I loved the characters and the writing, but story and pacing were way off. I felt it started out as a 5/5 book and ended as 3/5. #books #leserixx

@rixx i remembered the book from my childhood fondly and reread it and still think it's a good book because it really just grabs my attention and imagination

that said don't read past the first book if you don't like the religious undertones imo, the religious undertones get much, much worse in the 2nd book and really soured me from reading any more because of that.

@vahnj I *totally* get how children would be into it. I would have been, even though religious undertones (Narnia, I'm looking at you) scared me off even then. But it's a lovely book.

But if you liked this, you really could have fun with Diane Dunae's Wizard series, if you don't know it. A bit of a cross of A Wrinkle in Time and American Harry Potter, only much better thought through and with real characters. Erm. I meant to say, I like it.

@rixx maybe I'll have to check it out then. I only really re-read it because I hadn't read it since 3rd grade but have very vivid fond memories of how fun it twists your imagination, and it still got me going when I reread it!

@vahnj Exactly the same for me, only without redeeming memories later on. But the first half drew me in completely. Just the right mix of down to earth real things and feelings, and whacky magic in the air.
