Work Stuff

So I just spent an hour working in the datacenter soaking wet...

and it was totally worth it..

because the reason I'm wet is that I spent 30 minutes before the trip talking with one of the Product-Ops team leaders (there were no conference rooms available so we went outside in the rain) about his desire to bring me into his team and if it was possible or not (it is) and how to approach making it happen.. and also if I knew anyone that we could hire to replace me since that would smooth things along...

It would be a move to a small team (3 people including me) that work with our engineering teams to bring services into an Ops ready state. Purely AWS environment, which is something I've really wanted to develop a skill set in. This comes on the heels of my manager asking me what I want to start moving toward internally and carving out time to start training/shadowing. On-top of that we wanted to work on a plan to start training my team to start taking some of the basic AWS service related tasks on.

Which seriously lifts my mood after the other lead on my team got promoted to supervisor because promoting me would cause too many scheduling issues.

@mawr YES! Plus move to a Site Reliability Engineer position is big pay bump + exactly the sort of thing I want to move to.. and really valuable skill set in the long term! Also no more working weekends aside form the rare T3 escalation while oncall. Plus. yay for DevOps... and both of the guys on the team are pretty awesome and were a big help in making me feel comfortable when I first moved over to Ops here.
Just kinda like... We can totally make this happen.. and transition things nicely

@wobblewuffess Eeeeeee!!!!! :D :DDD I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

@mawr :D
Plus totally going to try to get Aurora hired as my replacement. Because she could do about 90% of my job and the other 10% should probably generally be handled by our SysEng teams anyway I just do it because I can.
