I do not have enough WTFs for this today. Yesterday around 2pm a system went off line. The ops director asked me to check it out since I'd be at the Colo it was in. Is just gone. Cables still in rack.
Much wtfing later, search all of our cages in this datacenter... and jira and everything else.. Yes box is marked for decom but not until new hardware is deployed replace it (which I know it's not because that ticket is assigned to me....)
So while searching our cages and auditing them I noticed a box that looked hell of a lot like the box I was looking for in the IT cage (badge access only) but I could not read the label, it was too far away.
About an hour later the IT DCO manager calls me as he is rushing up to the datacenter to give me my damned box.
@wobblewuffess it's a mystery
@wobblewuffess So is the IT manager on fire and or shocked to death yet? If not, why isn't he? :D
@IrisKalmia If only! He will probably get a minor ass chewing and so will the people that filed the request.
It turns out that after filing the notice to ops of a security issue. and ops sorting out a plan to address it (patch then replace)
Security team went filed an IT decom request (IT is not supposed to touch our stuff and vice versa but this box was in a cage IT has to pass through to get to thier cage). The IT datacenter manager took it on himself to decom the box. Which was shortly before the director of ops hit me up to find out wtf happened to this system.
