OH MY GOD. This is my favorite Birdsite thread of the last several years, and captures so many of the elements of modern fandom's literal-mindedness that I can't stand.
I'm very proud of the extent to which Parallax is being written explicitly to frustrate the sort of foolish consistency that Scott's describing here.

@Cerulean Yyyyyup. DeviantArt syndrome. :) That awful conflux of "ultra-specific kink," "painful literal-mindedness," and "utter lack of independent imagination."
I sympathize and am SO AFRAID of what I'm walking into by attempting a space opera that's deliberately full of time gaps and 100% deliberate continuity errors...
I'm HOPING it'll serve as Baby's First Book Of Unreliable Narrative for some of these people, but I think I'm too cynical by now to actually believe it.

Because kink is a particular thing, I try to be understanding about people who want very specific answers from me about the canon of a one-off picture with unnamed characters so they can know whether it turns them on or not.
The only people remaining who care about Absurd Notions are those who expect me to tell them who Lance is. The punchline of that story, the thing that makes it funny, is that Warren may never know what it was about. Unfortunately I cultivated an audience made of Warren.
