Memento Mori

There's something that makes me gravitate to the almost-weres, never-made-its, reach-exceeds-grasp ephemera. Vanity projects, television specials on VTR, that last album by a pop band before their breakup. Not cringe, "so bad it's good" stuff, but the strange stuff where it's obvious that skill and craft were involved, but they're just not there. That mix of sell-out desperation, all-parts-of-the-buffalo budgeting, and a few sparks of creativity nearly invisible in the shadow of triviality.

@xinjinmeng Oh, actually... what you really want to do is find all of Weird Al's old "ALTV" specials from MTV. They degrade in quality quickly from the 4th or 5th one on, but... Al turns out, unsurprisingly, to be one of the best VJs who ever lived. It's not all novelty music, but he unearths some truly wonderful VHS-era obscurities right on the border between comedic and dead serious. Lots of weird experimental videos by almost-famous artists.

@zebratron2084 Al Yankovic's curation and sense of aesthetics are under-appreciated.
