Another of these puzzles. Sometimes a theme just comes together.

I get the decryption, but I'm having trouble finding all the correct similes for the conditions, and that's preventing me from getting to the next step.

So far 1, 3, and 7 voted yes. Still working out the rest... wait, no... it's the specific number of, not simply the presence of...
Ok, that changes my previous answer to so far 6 votes for yes...
@JulieSqveakaroo @dodec Yeah, I got the basic schtick and 5/8 words but am still not sure about how to get a final count out of them, or whether the remaining three should have any constraints on them.

@JulieSqveakaroo @dodec Yeah, I was deliberately being coy b/c I was on mobile and was too lazy to key in a cw. :)
Basically, I can see that most of these indicate words of the listed length, with two I's in them. But I can't figure out the other three words, nor whether the deal is that they're supposed to have too few, too many, or zero I's in them to indicate a "nay" vote.
Also, I'm a tad worried about the fact that some of these may have multiple potentially valid answers? This kind of word puzzles can be tricky because there's always the possibility some smartass with a REALLY good thesaurus will come up with a right wrong answer. :)

The two I can't figure out are #4 and #6 in the list.
The last line of the riddle asks for the tally of "ayes", so I think it's looking for the specific number of them, not just the single, double, or triple instances. I don't think that matters...
I don't think there actually is a method in this puzzle to count up the nays, and since we're not asked to solve for them, I'm assuming they aren't even involved and that's just a logic pit trap.

If there are only 8 votes involved, then each word we're looking for is either a yes or no vote, and that's easier to figure out.
But according to Captain Sid, a ship's crew is usually far more than 8, so I'm assuming there will be more votes, so I'm wondering if every word must have at least one "i" in it, or there wouldn't be a reason for it to be on the list, which means my answers aren't correct...

Chitin definitely fits. I think Instinct is also right, but it feels odd that Intuition was the clue...
