@zebratron2084
I'm more of a poly sci amature, but here's the good possible outcomes in order of likelihood as a counter balance to the obvious doom outcomes everyone sees. take all with more salt than a cheep margarita
drives voter turn out in November - solid chance
contributes to down ballot democrat wins - better than a coin toss
rushed appointment that turns out to be less conservative then they hope once on the bench - coin toss
leads to biden win - coin toss
leads to flipping the senate - probably less than a coin toss more than a third
leads to an expansion of the court to 13 - 4 coin 3 heads toss
causes mitch to die of heart failure while masturbating dreaming of the shit he can do with the court - nine coin flip seven heads
rushed attempts to deliberate in person by the senate republicans cause a corona outbreak at the capital preventing a quorum until after December - low probability but not impossible
leads to fixed terms for federal judges - my dream unlikely
leads to mandatory retirement ages for all top government positions - very implausible unfortunately.

@001zlnv Yeah, my hopes are coming from the fact that RGB came REAL close to running out the clock for us, and if Biden doesn't win we're screwed anyhow... And if he does win, there's always the hope we can pressure him to pack the court.
I wonder if people aren't seriously underestimating how slowly the SCOTUS moves. The only major case coming up is the ACA, which is SCARY SCARY SCARY but is also the sort of thing profoundly likely to turn people against Trump last-minute, given how popular the ACA actually is.
This is also already fueling massive, massive donations to McConnell's opponent, plus your IMHO very valid point that even Kavanaugh did not turn out to be the puppet that Trump was hoping for...
So, yeah. Don't count your omelettes before the eggs are even cracked. Or something.
re: unkind
There's also the constant plague year wild card.
Any and every politician may die or be incapacitated by covid before November. Even if they sit, there is no garantee for how long.
re: unkind
(that is not a subtoot btw and y'all mourn however you need to -- i just have some reasons for hope, or at least some questions to ask about what the consequences of this could *actually* be, but really don't feel like fighting the stream of doomsaying tonight)
