PSA: Linksys LGS552 switches are steaming piles of shit. 11/17 failed in about 12 months, and some of those switches have only been installed for a couple months.
Something silently corrupts their firmware, or they fail outright. They keep passing packets until rebooted, but the management CPU is toast.
I discovered this accidentally today while troubleshooting something else, then checked a few switches and freaked out. D:
I have these bloody things in 5 locations around the world ranging from China to Hungary, and because they keep passing packets, until I checked the switches themselves, I had no idea of the failure condition. D:
(And no, we weren't looking at SNMP since they were used as fairly dumb access switches, but holy shit am I implementing that now for anything in the future!)
