You are erasing whatever identity it has beneath the mask. This doesn't mean it isn't harming you. But it's the narrative you have taken on. The card is about erasure through perception and single mindedness. Something powerful in a story, but otherwise dangerous.

Interestingly, a rival strongly represents division where the monster represents union... rivalries often pull us apart, where shared threats pull us together
