also on the lookout for an alternative to my adult industry/xxx Twitter account. while I have never tried to sell my work and services to my fandom peeps, I still miss having good conversations without all of the hateful stuff that I have to deal with over on Twitter
if anyone has some recommendations for Mastodon instances which are #Sexworker #nudity #petplay #fetish / #kink / #bondage or #sex friendly... Id like to know.
@PaulFerence Yeah. i was looking at my staging server. Wosh i had a better connection
@Catwoman69y2k we've been thinking of making a sex worker instance!
@h3xtacy I am someone who would definitely be interested in it. I am seeing conversations about it both from Twitter and through some of the search results I'm doing through Mastodon.
@h3xtacy I think that Macedon might be a good option for sex workers themselves if the instance was to allow for nudity and maybe require less things to be behind a CW.
that being said, I don't know if sex workers will be able to fully move over when it comes to their fans and or content buyers.
as a tech savvy person, I'd say that my sex work side is where I run into people who want everything easy.
@Catwoman69y2k every instance has it's own rules, there's no reason for a sex worker instance to have rules against nudity or self promotion, esp if it is run by fellow workers.
there's no way anyone would move their business entirely to Mastodon right now, the clients are still on the corporate sites.
but i think it is a great option for when, inevitably, most of us get banned from birdsite, insta, fb, etc
@h3xtacy Yeah. the big problem with Twitter right now is that it's not taking care of a lot of the elements that I embrace -- as a furry, as a person open and receiving of all sexualities, and yeah... as a sex worker
@h3xtacy I agree with you, and it was what I was saying to others, regarding a mastodon instance probably not requiring CW tags...and how that would be the likely policy if there was an instance that was designed for adult industry stuff. I know on Twitter that over 75% of the people I follow post images that have to be marked sensitive, even if it's the most basic of sexual imagery.
@h3xtacy I'd also hope that such an instance would have the typical rule on here about no transphobia, no sexism, racism, etc.
@Catwoman69y2k if i was admin it would
@Catwoman69y2k I think toot.cat might be?
@gannet I'm checking with the admin on this right now. searching for Kink related tags in the meantime.
I know toot.cat is explicitly sex worker friendly.
@Catwoman69y2k former sex worker here who also did sex education. Also a petplay & kinky friendly person. I don't know of any specific instances just yet that would be well suited but interested in what you may find.
@Catwoman69y2k If you end up teaming with a group of SW's who have combined buying power you might be able to arrange a private instance to be set up with mastodon that could have special protections for your needs. For example you could have it hosted in a protected country/area do prevent assets being seized. There could also be the opportunity to dedicate specific resources for developing policy/structure that is suited to your needs.
I have some contacts that may be helpful if you need.
@stardust The country aspect you mention is a big reason why I didnt think to use my server here. I am US based.
@Catwoman69y2k I help run a small infosec company that recently launched this past month called dragon scale networking. We're focused on home and small business users and it sounds like you would fit in pretty well. If you want to chat about options definitely open to help where/how I can.
@stardust absolutely. I admit, most of my technology is more on web design 3D modeling and graphics. I did look up how Mastodon instances can be created on a server and it looked friendly to one of my favorites distros
@Catwoman69y2k yeah it's relatively straight forward. The biggest challenges are maintenance and overall security policies to improve protection. Severs that have outward facing services in non US territories tend to be pretty popular out there as targets.
@Catwoman69y2k and yeah I agree on the issues re: server location. Some of the biggest challenges are establishing hosting in a place that isn't going to necessarily respond to a US complaint, while still keeping content useable for your users in the US.
@Catwoman69y2k I'm not sure if there is one, but you could probably find someone to help you set it up.
