I JUST found out I can sorta maybe possibly dump/program/reprogram my dead laptop's EC with that one programmer I bought, a CH314A.
I just thave to find the proper pinout for it and prod some of the keyboard connector's pins!

Whoops! Plugged it in backwards and the programmer got crazy hot. Didn't notice until I got a hot flux whiff.

Let's pray I didn't fry the BIOS.

Now where the hell is the ROM I dumped from HP's website?

Oh GOD why do they have to be named like this, which was the one that I needed???

It took a few tries but I finally got a proper dump from this programmer so I can vouch for it being known good.
Now I have to tinker with the motherboard and the teeny tiny pins it has to try and program the EC.

@CloverChrome When I was a toddler I vaguely understood what a short circuit was from cartoons, so I would dip McDonald toys in milk to see if they'd break in neat ways. And then I'd be bummed out realizing that was a permanent change.

@kateyagi I did something similar with some of my toys. I would stick coins and keys into their electronics to see if they would throw cool blue arcs or something but they would always just silently break :(
