Update: I got another enclosure from the same brand (Orico) and this one doesn't do The Thing. I guess it depends on the controller?
The one that does it is an "ASMedia Technology" device.
The one that does not is a JMicron one.
It not only doesn't show the actual drive's info, it's unable to perform or retrieve SMART tests/data.
Could it have to do with UASP?
Either way, it really isn't that big of a deal but dammit, I wanted another cool enclosure.
@nano I believe he said he only accepts the sponsorship since he actually uses it for price matching stuff, not for the privacy hubbub. He insists on not using their talking points last time I checked.
I DO think it's kinda shitty he gave in, tho.
It took a few tries but I finally got a proper dump from this programmer so I can vouch for it being known good.
Now I have to tinker with the motherboard and the teeny tiny pins it has to try and program the EC.
@kateyagi I did something similar with some of my toys. I would stick coins and keys into their electronics to see if they would throw cool blue arcs or something but they would always just silently break :(
Whoops! Plugged it in backwards and the programmer got crazy hot. Didn't notice until I got a hot flux whiff.
Let's pray I didn't fry the BIOS.
